Do you write? Do you plan everything or just go for it?
I began writing stories when I was a child in elementary school as they were teaching us English and literature. I have always been a pantser, someone that writes off the fly and doesn’t plan or plot anything. I write the by seat of my pants per se. I don’t enjoy making outlines as I never stick to them. I did learn how to do different outline methods in school. I have since then forgotten them or not improved at outlining.
When I began writing my novel I started at the age of 15 from a dream I had when I was 5, I wrote it as a pantser. I did not outline any of the storyline, plot or characters. I just put my pencil to paper and opened my mind. With a great imagination I let the words flow to getting a nearly full book written. At the age of 17 I began typing my book onto a computer at a local internet café. I did however lose my notebook and diskette. I never finished my book.
When I was in the Army, deployed to Iraq, in my spare time I began writing my book again. Again, I did not outline or plot anything but began letting my fingers type uncontrollably on my laptop with my imagination flowing. Due to hard drive crashes I never finished my novel.
I have written poems and a song. All by the seat of my pants, just letting my fingers roll, never deciding ahead of time what will be written.
In 2018 I had decided with the encouragement of my pastor to write a book on overcoming depression to help me overcome my own depression. Writing a Bible based self-help book I could not just pants my way through this. I had to plan it and figure out how to write and what to write in what order to make this as good as possible to teach others how I overcame depression.
Through my research, prayer and writing of this book I not only re-learned how to do a Roman numeral outline; I also learned how to overcome my own depression through my faith in Jesus Christ. Writing my books I learn a life lesson I feel I need to learn or improve on in my own life and publishing the books I help others learn how to as well.
I have begun to learn different ways to plot and plan my books so they can be as professionally written as possible for this uneducated man. All I have in writing my books is my own life experiences and the Word of God with any research I do to attempt to give out some wisdom for life lessons.
Ways I have learned to plot include asking for help from other authors, watching YouTube videos and just searching Google for ideas. I have begun to improve my craft of plotting but as a natural born pantser this will take some time and dedication as plotting is not my strong suit. I do not feel comfortable with outlines and plots when I write. I prefer to let my mind and heart tell me what to write instead of a piece of paper or group of many papers.
Learning to be a plotter is necessary for the sub-genre of “Bible based self-help” books. I have giving it all I have to learn this craft so that I can be as good as possible to write my books as good as possible. I believe God’s will for my life is to write these books and in such, I will follow the Bible verses Colossians 3:23-24 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye server the Lord Christ.”

Depression is something that most people experience at one point or another. During this time of life, life can be hard to live. Some people attempt to hide it from others, while others have trouble coping with life situations and have trouble with everyday tasks such as personal self-care.
This book will show how the author had gone through depression for many years and teaches how he allowed his faith in God to conquer that depression in his own life. These teachings are meant to help others overcome their own depression while letting them know they are not alone in their struggle.
