Exclusive sneak peak at some of the pages inside my first book of the "Stories from the Heritage friends" children's picture book series. This title is "Mark
And His Fibbing".
Getting the illustrations was a tough job. First I asked around the writing community on Discord, Instagram and even on Twitter.
I found a website where I can hire people to do pictures for me. Well, all those were willing to do character art but not full fledged illustrations. Apart from that, if i were to have any of them do actual illustrations for the book it would be over $2,500 per book.
Being that I am planning on selling these books in paperback around $7-9 it would take me, on those numbers, selling 278-358 copies to break even. That's not including a cover designer and anything else i may need to do like get ISBN or copy right the book and more. The ROI (return on investment) isn't worth it for that price. Not to mention I DON'T have tons of money laying around.
I tried drawing the pictures myself. I used a model picture and still soon realized it would take me forever to come out with a semi-quality product.
I was speaking with people at church and one gentleman mentioned his daughters draw. I asked them to bring me examples and i loved them. I went out on a limb without seeing what they could personally do for me and wrote up a contract. I'm paying them way less than $2,500, but for their skill and age level it's about right.
The two teens began sketching my illustrations. A month and a half later we met for discussing the sketches. I liked them and loved some. I had to give one major change and a few tiny critiques. These girls, with my direction of what I was expecting were on point.
Then a month and a half later (per contract) we met for the final drawings, with just a few texts here and there for guidance and reminders. There you see a few of the final pictures above in the collage.
I am so excited and can't wait for the final product as I get things truly rolling now. I started creating a book trailer for YouTube which will also be on my website when the book releases. I do not have a release date yet as I still have to wait for the cover designer to begin and complete the cover design and cover wrap for the book. I have to begin the upload to KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) so I can get the ISBN so I can put in for the Library of Congress Control Number and pay for the copyright. With those I need to upload the book to the websites so I have to wait until my book is completed. The library of Congress Control number I will receive in a few days of the application (at least for my first book I did) and for the copyright, it takes 6 months to receive my certificate of copyright in the mail.
*DO NOT share these pictures with anyone, especially online. The book is not yet published.

Depression is something that most people experience at one point or another. During this time of life, life can be hard to live. Some people attempt to hide it from others, while others have trouble coping with life situations and have trouble with everyday tasks such as personal self-care.
This book will show how the author had gone through depression for many years and teaches how he allowed his faith in God to conquer that depression in his own life. These teachings are meant to help others overcome their own depression while letting them know they are not alone in their struggle.
