Being a mirror, not a photograph

Updated: May 6

A mirror, a photograph, what!

What does it mean to be a mirror or photograph? How can a person be a mirror? How could a person be a photograph?

Well, I don't mean a literal mirror and photograph. What do you think about when you hear the word mirror or photograph? Some people think of how they look, if they look good, if they look fat or skinny or does their hair look presentable for public, when they hear mirror. Some people don't like mirrors.

Well, I'm not talking about any of that. When you look in a mirror you see exactly who you are at that exact moment, not yesterday or years ago or even 5 minutes ago, but that exact second you look in the mirror.

When you look into a photograph you see who you were then, not now, but the person you were at the time of taking the picture. You see the clothes and facial expression and background. People take photos for graduations, birthdays, weddings and many more reason.

A photo never changes. You are frozen in time in that photo to pictate the person you were and even the events happening around you. In a mirror you change, it shows who you are at that very moment, showing yourself as you are, not who you were.

Some people get stuck in the past and worry about what they were or who they were. That is not healthy and does not allow for growth and change. Life is ever changing and we as people should be ever changing. Whether you are a Christian, atheist, author, website designer, singer, teacher, or what ever; you should daily change and improve. You should daily grow, learn and mature.

As a Christian we are to become more like Christ each new day.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17.

"And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." Luke 9:23.

Denying oneself doesn't mean not to take care of yourself, but to put God's desires above yours. Make Jesus and serving Him your priority and grow and mature and become closer to him each new day.

"At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you." John 14:20

Jesus is speaking of when he leaves Earth to return to heaven after his death on the cross and resurection; however, it's speaking of being saved. And if you are in Him and He in you, why would you not daily grow and mature and change?

Don't be a photograph frozen in time as the person you were before. Become that hypothetical mirror and be always changing. Whether it is you as friend, parent, sibling, employer, employee, your select job description; grow each day. In your personality you can become nicer, kinder, a better listener, more selfless, more gentle, more loving. Growing has no bounds.

You may be comfortable with who you are but remember everything you do affects those around you, even if you don't think it does. If even one person would be affected by your death then at least one person is affected by your life. Don't be a photo, be a mirror!

Depression is something that most people experience at one point or another. During this time of life, life can be hard to live. Some people attempt to hide it from others, while others have trouble coping with life situations and have trouble with everyday tasks such as personal self-care.

This book will show how the author had gone through depression for many years and teaches how he allowed his faith in God to conquer that depression in his own life. These teachings are meant to help others overcome their own depression while letting them know they are not alone in their struggle.
